Default Fuelpak and/or ECM problem

I installed the fuelpak with these settings and have been experiencing some pinging when using the throttle to clime or accelerate up hill, Seems to happen at higher (3k+) RPMs.

I have Fuelpak part number V61003A. Motorcycle is a 2007 Ultra Classic stock with V&H slip on Monster Ovals and a K&N AC. Stock headers and no engine mods.

I scrolled through the settings per the chart and they are all fine. The only thing I did notice is that on mode-21 at full throttle it only registered 94. So I scrolled through all the settings again and when getting to mode-19, I very slowly rolled the throttle to full. Then on mode-21 can now see 99. Is this going to make any difference in the pinging? Mode-20 is another diagnostic code but what should it mean to me? It shows a value of 12. I added a K&N filter since installing the fuelpak.

I am also getting code P0152
P0152 Rear O2 Sensor High (EFI)

Any advise you can offer will be helpful. I now have put about 4000 miles on with the fuelpak. When I first experiencing codes I had the same one as indicated above and also P1353 so I changed out the spark plugs. That seemed to make a big difference (they were original with 11K miles on them) I also noticed this weekend that the check-engine light would come on randomly while riding and stay on for just a second or two. I noticed this twice. again, code P0152 and that code only.

Any advice would be helpful.

Thank you

John

Try adjusting mode 4 from 0 to 3 or 4

I didn't think the timing is adjustable on the Fuelpak. A change in fuel setting might help but your timing might be too advanced in that area. Or, you just need to use a lower gear.

Thank you for the replies. I appreciate you taking the time to read through. Hey JPowel490, where did you get mode info? Can you share it? What is mode-4 for? I googled and found the fuelpak list of codes for all applications and saw mine (FP-2141) and also noticed a different one that for the same slip-ons that I have but for inclusion of a stage-1 download. The prior owner mentioned nothing about that so I was wondering if there is any way to verify if a stage-1 download was done. Also, does it set up for potential damage by experimenting with code changes for one or more of the modes?

Thank you.

The fuelpak does not control timing nevil, or that I am aware of.

John, I had one on my 08 Night Train. I came across a guy that had the super secret settings and what each one was for. I remember what they did, but they don't go in sequence like you would think. Like setting 17 is the decel if I remember correctly. I could look it up. Just give 4 a try and let me know.

Oh and stage 1 is a joke. You won't hurt it by changing some like I advise. I wouldn't lead you down that path. Now VH, you can call them and tell them your settings and they will help too.

Just to clarify, Mode 17 is not the decel mode, it acutally controls the idle AFR, NOT idle rate, just the fuel at idle. This value is typically 0 for our maps.

For the original poster's issue, if you are at 3k+ RPMs you can enrichen modes 11,12 by +4. This will add a bit more fuel in this area to help alleviate that issue. However, for the Code I would look into diagnosing the condition of that O2 sensor.

Are the codes still present?

I have not had the chance to rerun the motorcycle yet since checking the codes per FP-2141 spec and recalibrating the throttle to show full range. I appreciate you sharing the mode 11 and 12 info. But, if I am getting code P0152 (O2 sensor, rear, too high) wouldn't I want to go leaner? That of course is assuming that the O2 sensor is working as it should. What does mode-1 do? I have 2 lists from V&H with one showing a 0 (zero) value for mode-1 and the other showing a 10 (ten). I was going to reset mode-1 to 10 and retry before taking the mode-4 suggestion above or more-11/12 suggestions. Should I check the O2 sensor? How would I do that? Voltmeter? What would I be looking for and would that be with engine running or not? sensor installed or removed?

Within our experience, when we such a code it has been a bad O2 sensor. Usually not due to degradation, rather damage when new headpipes or exhaust is installed. This is especially prevalent with 2012+ Softail Models on the rear O2 sensor getting twisted when being removed. It will break the heater circuit wire internally.

However, it appears as though you are reading of the old setting charts that were printed. I suggest going to the website to retrieve codes as many of these maps have been updated. Here is a screenshot from the website of your map.

As for rich or lean, it would have showed a code on both front and rear sensors. The Fuelpak does not differentiate between cylinders. Thus I believe it might be a failing O2 sensor. The factory service manual should outline procedures for testing resistance of the circuits.

Thank you V&H for clarifying the codes. I have a service manual and will check out the O2 sensor test procedure.

Thank you

Hey V&H, can you tell me what each of those codes mean?
