Starting a rebuild on a burnt 73 Ironhead XLCH
I have a 73 Ironhead that got baked in the previous owners Shipping container. There was a fire in the trailer next to the container which heated up the shipping container to the point that when the door was opened a flash fire erupted. The tires, wires, switches, etc. were all melted.
I've now got the bike, have scrapped off the aftermarket seat and parts that melted, battery acid etched a bit of the metal but got most of the damage off the bike and have been doing a lot of cleaning.
I'm a quick learner but haven't worked much with engines. I've rebuilt a few carbs, but consider me on the level of novice. I'd like to get her cranking by 11/28/15 - getting married here on the farm, hoping the loud engine may scare off a few of the guests who are just here for the free meal and drinks ( hired a bagpiper to play for three hours to do the same ).
I'll post a pic if I can figure out how. Pulling the fenders and tank off- will use a wire wheel to take the rust down to bare metal then will cover with sandable primer just to hold it until I'm further along.
I could use some help rewiring ( got the wire harness) but need to figure out what to do about forward controls and switches.
Thanks
