81 sportster wont start after pushrod adjustment
Hi my bike felt like it was a little low on power but would idle fine. I checked the push rods front exhaust was loose rear was really loose. adjusted them the way I always do. bike wont fire on rear cylinder. don't have compression gauge but just putting finger over spark plug hole the front one will blow my finger off of hole. the rear cylinder has pressure coming out but its not even half of what the front is. is it time to pull the heads off ?

First i would check the pushrod adjustment again on the weak cylinder. If a pushrod is too tight the valve will not close and you get a low reading.
Then i would invest in a compression gauge and get a technical value for the compression. They are not expensive and are a very useful tool to have. I check cylinder compression about as often as I do oil changes.
Then you might consider getting a cylinder leakage tester. This is a little more involved $s as it usually will cost more than a compression gauge and needs an air compressor to function [oh boy, more tools ]. But it helps to distinguish among various causes for low compression - leakage past intake valves vs leakage past exhaust valves vs leakage past rings.
Then you will be in a good, knowledgeable state to pull the heads, if necessary.
