Default What are the advantages to a belt primary?

So very close to starting this build, got all the engine parts sqared away just waiting for the Andrews gears to get here. Friend of mine sent me a link to a company called karato that makes a conversion kit to belt.

I was planning on replacing the chain regardless of the shape it's in as its a 42 yeah old bike. I was just curious what advantages, if any, come with switching to belt. According to the company they can be run wet or dry.

The Karata website shows out-of-stock on all Sportster belt primary drives. I am not knowledgeable on this topic myself, but most recent reliable info I have seen is that they will not be producing them again. Best to check with Karata on this before proceeding ...

Theres been a lot of this. I always assumed if a product was out of stock that means it was selling well. Crap. Well, off to scour many motorcycle parts stores and Ebay. I'll shoot Karata an email and see what the deal is.

Theres another company that does something similar. But its not a drop in conversion like the Karata. It involves more work than I feel like putting into it. Company is called Shortsters.com

Just my opinion, but stick with the chain. Bike's got 42 years on the chain. You'll be lucky to get 42 months on the belt.
