i,m looking for an 18" rear mag for a 1983 sporty factory mag wheel, not having much luck.

 

I believe in '83 it should be a 16" from the factory.

 

It is virtually impossible to find correct year IronHead parts if you do not have the Factory Parts Catalog in hand. The FPC that you need is 99451-85A.

On page 63 you can see that the correct part number for the wheel is either 41015-82A or 40983-83A, depending on the model you have [XLS. XLX, XL].

Now you can do proper Google, eBay, Internet etc searches.

Note also that getting wheels that fit is difficult to do. There are too many similar ones. Often you cannot tell until you have it in hand and are trying to fit it.

One source is sites like J&P Cycles. They often post year fitment ranges for the parts.

I bought a rear wheel for my 1980 IronHead some years ago. It was said to be a later 1980s wheel for some HD product. I had to do significant grinding on the brake rotor side to get it to fit. Then it worked perfectly.

 

An 18" cast rear wheel from a '79 is about your only option.
