Welcome to the Forum
You should buy the chain and generator new --- try Ebay and a service manual is a big help

I have a parts catalog to see how everything goes together I'm just finding that things like the cam cover are over 150 bucks and I didn't know if anyone had some spares of anything

Just a second thought -- if you gen is not charging -- do you know that when any charging system parts are replaced that the generator must be "polarized "

I do understand that thanks for the heads up though, the unfortunate thing is I don't even have a generator. It's my fathers Harley and he passed away a few years ago and I'm trying to build it in his memory but the thing that sucks is that he gave it to somebody a few years before he passed that took it apart and lost some pieces over the years so now I'm left trying to put together a broken puzzle. I'm also a mechanic but not a motorcycle mechanic so this is kind of a new world to me that I haven't felt with so I'm having some troubles especially because everything for this bike seems to b really expensive even used. I jus bought two heads with rockers and covers for 230$ and I thought that was gunna b the last of the most expensive things but I was wrong hahahaha

Seems like I was told that you don't want to swap out your cam cover. The bushings in it that hold the cam shafts in place are line bored at the factory while the motor is being built so everything is nice and straight. I hope you find one that works. I would really try and get an HD cover and not go aftermarket on that.

Is the cam cover missing or damaged? If damaged perhaps you can post some pictures and we can give some advice. If missing, well, I guess you will have to get a used one. The part numbers to search for are 25201-79A and 25205-79A.

Interesting note - the are referred to as crankcase cover in the parts catalog. I did not notice that before. They are actually covers for the gearcase.
