Hey lads, while installing new points I gave the breaker plate screw a little too much ooomph and it stripped out. Timer threads look fine, the screw is **** though. Tried all kinds of tap and die stuff but it think the threads in the timer plate are boogered up just enough to make things difficult. Does anyone happen to know what thread pattern that screw is? I could retap it to a slightly larger size but that may start to interfere with the breaker plate slightly. I've run in an 8/32 screw which feels good and tight for a couple turns but then stops. Thoughts?
I think you'll find that screw is #8-36 UNF..... but verify it before you go too far. On my '71 xlch, it's #8-36 but I don't know your ride.
Regardless, whatever you end up putting in there....... confirm you only have a few thou or two (0.001" - 0.002") sticking out the back side. Failure to catch this and the screw will hit the mechanical advance unit & chew your advance unit all to hell.
