Has anyone ever been able to find a site that will give a good status of our bikes? Obviously my bike isn't stolen or they would have never allowed for me to title my bike but I just wondered if there was a way to see the information on our bikes.
Here in Michigan you can go to the DMV website and for a fee of $7 (this state gives nothing away) you can track your bike all the way back to the first owner. I guess you could log on to the site in your state and see if they offer this service. I've never tried CARFAX, but it's possible they might do this also.
Here in Ontario, whenever a vehile is sold the seller is required to purchase a Vehicle Information Package for $20.00 from the provincial government, and to give this to the purchaser. The package contains the names etc of the previous owners - but only those from Ontario.
There was a recent CBC MarketPlace investigation of private CarFax-like companies. Apparently, they often do not have the information they claim to have, such as the accident history of the vehicle. They only have information that was reported to some insurance companies.

I agree this, they know only info that is reported to (insurance)company's. This apply's also to DMV reports they only knows what is reported (police, state inspection, valid insurance ) into their system.
