Default bobber project bike (HELP)

looking for knowledge so i came to the source, you guys. I have #92 off the line in 1984 and im really want to make it into a bobber. I have heard all kinds of rumors about the first hundred made being "special edition" Whether this holds water or not, i would love to hear input on this project. Do i use the existing frame and just mod it, or is there a hardtail kit made that i could use? This is my first bike, and i have ridden it for the last 7 years with almost no problems but i want to make it my own. Im all ears.

Did you ride hard tail for a long time before? Maybe it is a good idea to install solid links instead of shocks for a while before you modify frame. Good luck.

I have a 78 with a weld on hard tail. The ride is rough you feel every bumb in the road. That being said I love the way it rides and handles. I personlly think the ridgid are bad *** anf that's the only thing I will ever ride. I live in Chicago and don't have any trouble getting out on the highway and riding a good distance. You will however be sore after a long ride but that's the price you pay to look cool !!

i rode a hard tail for a long time two years ago i switched it back to the soft tail and i would never go back, sure it looks cool but cool doesnt allways make it handle better or any better on your back, for me anyway the soft tail is a much rider friendly set up.

My first 2 bike were springer fronts and hard tails ('57 triumph 650 thunderbird and a chopped '73 cb 750.). I loved the looks but after many years riding the '57 it was time to hang it up or forget about walking in my old age. I drove cross-country many times when I was younger. It was one heck of a ride and the bike always got noticed and you do seem to get a little more respect riding one you built but for me I want the looks of a cool bike with the benefit of being able to move in the morning. I wish you the best of luck on your decision. I wouldn't trade the experience I had on mine for anything. That being said: THANK GOD FOR SHOCKS NOW! LOL.
