'71 clutch ramp woes
Hey Ironheads,
Clutch is dragging me around on the ol 71 XLH, imagine that! Im thinking my ramp assy is toast. With primary off, I pulled my clutch lever and measured the throw...1/8 inch. I put the cover on, now compressing the cluch, and measuring from the outside of the case in to the worm bolt, it only moves 1/16 inch. This seems inadequate to separate 8 disks. My cable adjustment is correct and the ***** are centered in the ramps correctly. Does anyone know how much throw a GOOD unit SHOULD have?? Trying to avoid buying parts I dont really need....Thanks!!

Thanks for the reply Mick.
Yes, the cable is adjusted as per the manual, had to go look it up to make sure my method was correct since you asked, been a while!
Since the last post, Ive made stud spacers and will try this vs the stock retainers used till 1974. This may help with disengagement but still suspect the ball and ramp assy should have more throw.
Keep the rubber side down....Will
