Ironhead pinion removal
I have my new starter pinion for the bike but am at a dead end on how to pull the old pinion and shaft out? Do you have to split the case or is there a trick I am unfamilar with? I knew it wouldn't be simple just don't know where to start. I ordered my manual but want to get it fixed fast and the manual isn't here yet.
Thanks.
Thanks.

My book says,
1 Remove solenoid.
2 Remove clutch.
3 Rotate the shift lever and disenguage it from shift collar.
4 Pull pinion gear and shaft assembly from starter shaft housing
5 Remove drive gear from driveshaft
6 disassemble pinion gear and shaft assembly
a Remove thrust washer
b pinion shaft nut has left hand threads
c Secure pinion shaft in vice turn pinion shaft counter clockwise to remove pinion shaft nut from drive shaft
d Remove lock ring, seperate pinion gear from shift collar
e You have to remove the starter housing or battery to gain access to shift lever screw
f Remove the starter shaft housing, remove it and starter as assembly
g Remove shift lever from housing
h Assemble in reverse order
Hope this helps you I have not got in to this yet myself.
