Points, Dual points & Single fire

Hello I'm new to the forum. Seeking info on ignitons. I find bits and peices of information about dual points, a dual point setup that is a true single fire. Can someone set me straight on this? I have seen a dual pick up electronic set up. The set up on a V8 usually increases dwell. I would like to see a dual point set up for a ironhead sportster. I saw a mention of them as an aftermarket unit that is no longer produced. Does anyone know of these set ups? Do they exist?

I have been on these forums for 6 or 7 years now. I have never heard of dual points. The only single fire ignitions i have heard of are electronic: Ultima, Hi-4, etc.

I did a Google search for dual points ignition. Lots of info came up, including this ...
The dual point distributor only increases coil output (duration) for better performance in spark energy output from the coil, and for better high RPM operation.

Dual points ignitions are not single fire. Do the search and spend some time reading. Lots of good technical articles came up.

A dual point setup, while cool, will probably not result in much of a performance gain on an IH. If a performance increase is what you want, I'd go for a good quality single-fire EI unit. As I'm sure you know, there are positives and negatives to both points and EI.

I don't know if a dual point system exists, or ever did for an IH - I've never looked. I had a dual point Mallory unit many years ago on a small-block Chevrolet. It was Mondo Cool, but way PITA.
