I also like those kickers form 60's, I don't know if this 83-84 XR-1000 is "rear ironhead" but sure it's sportster and mean machine.

My XLCR-1000 has also something...

Anything with right-side shift, magneto, horse shoe oil tank and drum brakes.

As some of you might know, I am on the hunt for a classic Iron. I am thinking I want a 1974 but when I look through this thread at the iron you guys have makes me widen my scope a bit more. Nice machines for sure.

1974 is a very good choice - there are a lot of followers of this model. Well into the 1000cc years, both electric and kick can be installed, and it is the last year for right side shift - the latter being an important criteria for many guys [not me tho].

The 60s years appear to be favored by most of the old time IronHead bikers. And the prices of these are rising whereas most everything else is falling in price. If you want a 60s IronHead then look for a good one and be prepared to pay.

Welll i've seen alot of very nice old iron heads.. i cant say any that i didnt like. I like my bike the most mainly cuz its MINE! lol. 81 ironhead sporty 1000. Dual front disc, elec start. Drag bars and CV conversion. Bought it cheap, fixed it up a little, and really cant put a pricetag on it now. Maybe for 10k, lol..i might think about it, but its just once of those things ya cant put a price on. The ole lady loves the sounds, looks, and feel of it. My little boy LOVES the sound and likes the vibration of it, and i just strait up love how it makes me feel when im ridin it. A piece of Vintage Motorcycle history. Maybe not as vintage as some of yinz's bikes, but without a doubt, a very nice piece of machinery. Not just something thrown together over an 8 hour pd and then forgotten about. Truly something that made harley what they're known for today!

I like my 1979 XLH with the S&S Super B carb, and forward controls. It's a work in progress, but it's the first year they did away with the points (in fact, still has the '78 breaker plate), and that's one more thing I don't have to worry about. I wish they would have kept the kicker though.
