Depends. Around here asking prices are high. A guy here will ask $4500 for a bike that most places will sell for $2500. Most IronHeads sell for $1500 to $3000. $3800 sounds like he wants $3500 and has just left the usual space for the usual offer.

$3500 would be OK if it is truely in excellent condition - original frame and engine [check the numbers], original tins, all original instruments [tach, speedo, turn signals] and wire harness.

If it is not original frame and engine absolutely no more than $2000 regtardless of any other considerations. I would not even consider buying it - unless i was looking for something to chop anyway. Then it would be $1500, treating it like a basket case.

If the original turn signals and instruments have been removed then it is guaranteed to have many many many electrical isues. Lots of other stuff will have been messed with.

I guess it also depends on availability - are there others in your area on Kijiji or CraigsList [just across the border]? And how much do you really want that one?

If it is on Kijiji or CraigsList or whatever post a link so we can have a look at it.

$3800 is too high a price in most areas of the planet.

Very good info, thanks!
The bike is local craigslist, he was asking $4800 original and I talk him down to $3800, will look at the bike this afternoon. How do you check matching engine and chassis number? I am looking for a collector bike, not for chopping, like to keep it original as a second Harley or get a roll chassis, keep the engine and drivetrain, sell the chassis and paper alone. I have seen Ironhead as high as $7000 here, ridiculous!

The full VIN is on the frame neck on the right side. The shortened VIN is on the engine on the left side below the V of the cylinders. The entire shortened VIN should be contained within the full VIN.

Each half of the engine cases has a case number on the bottom near the front. You would have to lie on your back and look closely with a flashlight. The numbers should match.

The bike appears to have OEM turn signals. I do not know if the speedometer is OEM. No tach? If it had one originally were the wires just cut?
