80 iron sport rear brake issues...will 82 work??

Default 80 iron sport rear brake issues...will 82 work??

Have 80 iron sport and have located a 82 rear brake assembly in good shape..I have a Banana on it now and its scary..my book is at shop so I thought I would throw this out..thanks in advance

82 has a different rear wheel, frame and rear fork [swingarm]. It is unlikely that the 82 brake assembly will go onto any of 79 to 81..

Thanks I found that out this morning thank God they got rid of AMF!

You might want to read up on the history. If it were not for AMF there would be no HD and we would not be here. The general rumour/opinion etc against AMF is completely incorrect. The few technical problems that were created were resolved decades ago, but the myth persists.

I will do just that...remarks based on hear say -- interesting point you make..Thx Now they cant get the clutch hub nut loose tried heat and T wrench..others had it apart to re do trans I'm learning by necessity..its a good trip but frustrating as not many around know the irons a lot "lets try this" and we all know that don't get it..live and learn and hopefully ride Thx again

Must use the correct size socket and probably an impact [air or electric]. It is on there with a large torque. I forget the number. It is in the factory service manual 99484-85.

If you do not have one yet get one right away. That and the factory parts catalog 99451-85A are your two most important tools. Order from local indie shop or HD shop; or Google/eBay the part numbers.
