Surely an all new high quality bike with advanced tech to get power and light weight, with adventure bike quality suspension, would cost at least as much as a Road King right? What are they now $20K?

Roadking Specials are even more......

Been wanting to buy an Adventure bike but the 1’s I like are all priced in the high teens low 20’s. Ducati Multistrada, BMW GS1200, KTM 1190 Adventure R etc. This will be my 3rd bike. I already have my Hayabusa for speed and my Roadglide for touring and such. I’m just looking for a bike I can have a little fun with in the rain get dirty off-road and not spend hours cleaning all the time. Spray it off and be done.....

Have you considered a Honda Africa Twin? I stumbled upon a slightly used one and bought it even though I had a nice 2014 BMW R1200GSA. I like the Honda a lot, enough that I sold the BMW GSA. If something happened to mine I would go to the Honda shop and buy a new one. Only thing I don't like is the tube type tires and that it doesn't have cruise. But I love how narrow and light feeling it is, the excellent ergonomics, 200+ mile range, and nice handling on the road and especially on dirt roads and trails. List price is around $13,500 but you can find them discounted for less.

The above chart shows BMW R1200GS "starts at" $16,495 but in reality basically all come with Premium Package which takes them to $20K+

Yes I did consider the Africa Twin..... When it 1st came out and I seen the videos I thought for sure it was gonna be the bike for me. But when I seen it in person and sat on it I didn’t get the warm and fuzzies. I’m 5’10 and been riding bikes my whole life. Never considered myself short but that Africa Twin is humongous to me!!! It sits really high and I didn’t feel comfortable on it @ all.

That’s what I mean by waiting till I see it in person cause what you see on YouTube or read online doesn’t hold water to actually seeing it. I test rode a Ducati Multistrada S and it felt great and I enjoyed the ride. But I wasn’t paying $23k for it.... no way no how

Fair enough. FWIW I have a 32" inseam and find it's just fine even after I changed the seat to be a little higher in the front. The AT actually got me down a couple inches from the GSA.
The Africa Twin Adventure Sport; I like the extra gas capacity but its seat is pretty tall.

Default Buying one.

Can’t wait to see the Pan America in person, will definitely consider buying one, for me it will be added to the stable. I will keep the road king and the road Glide and buy another flavor

Currently owning both a 2009 FLHT and 2016 Triumph 800 Tiger XCxR, I find myself using the 800 for my long distance trips. Being a solo rider, I'll likely wait until 2021 and see what the 975cc version looks like. I hope H-D can succeed in this endeavor..

I just thought of an interesting predicament...what if the Pan America is hugely successful and draws a lot of attention and sales....what are the HD dealers gonna do if they get a lot of BMW R1200GS's or Triumph Tiger's in on trade? Hmmmm....something for them to maybe not want to sell any over.... I suppose they could always wholesale them out like they probably do with 7 out of 10 machines they take in trade anyway.... Sorry, it just popped into my head.
