May not achieve this mileage with an OEM chain but you can with a good after market one.
I just pray it comes with tubeless type wheels, my biggest gripe with my Africa Twin is it has tubes so any puncture requires removing the wheel from the bike and the tire from the wheel which is a real PIA out in the middle of nowhere.
Why do so many of the ADV bikes have chain drives? It seems that a belt drive would be no more expensive and about the same weight, and far less maintenance to worry about.

until something gets caught under the belt and pully and snaps it, chain is more durable, and can be fixed on the trail

Most people have not ridden their Harley’s through the mud and off-road conditions....... Belts work fine on road conditions but not so much dealing with rocks and mud. Shaft drives are enclosed so there’s protection but you also gain weight. Chain drives are lighter and the most effective for off road conditions

Also if anyone has read advrider they’d see the massive vstrom following. And believe me they are some of the least qualified adv bikes. But they’re cheap and they do fine. If you want a dirt bike buy one but adv bikes aren’t for that. BMW and ktm adv series aren’t made for hardcore off-road either. Although the 1190r can be ridden hard you better be a pro rider to use it that way. And if you crash you better have a good size checking account. If the pan am can bring me and my wife down fire roads to go camping and some moderate trails solo then I say it’s a win. Just hope it ends up being in the 15-17 k range depending on the stock options.

Gotcha! now I understand. I guess that's why BMW went the shAFT ROUTE in their GS and GSA models.

Besides two Harleys, I have a 2002 BMW R1150GS. It is my go-to bike for camping trips. I'd like to do a "Long Way Round" but heck.... I'm north of my mid-50s now.

I've been thinking about getting rid of the iron-tank-buil-like-a-hammer bike that it is, and getting a Tiger 800, 800 GS, or the new 1250GS. With the Pan America on the horizon, those plans are on hold. I'm not letting my GS go, or make any kind of buying decision until after the PA is out. I would love to do all my types of riding on one brand.

I really, really hope these bikes come close to a BMW GS in price/performance/specs.

If HD can make this close to what the KTM 1190 is it will sell like hot cakes. I don't care what anyone says. If the price can stay around 15-17k out the door it will be on like donkey-kong!

For me it’s gonna come down to this and the FTR1200. I hope they don’t turn it into a $23k bike. Not gonna pay that much for a bike I plan on riding and getting dirty
