Default 2017 Street Glide Special 400 Mile Review

I purchased my SGS a week ago and have since put on ~400 miles, riding to work almost every day over the past week and riding out to the York HD Vehicle Operations Plant today. I was originally planning on buying a '16 SGS, but coming from a Softail Slim S, I wasn't impressed with the power delivery of the 103 in stock form. As a result, I was pretty much set on keeping my Slim S... that is, until I test rode the 17 SGS a week later. I know the performance figures (total HP and torque) between the 103 and 107 engines aren't much different, but the difference in the power band between the two was very noticeable, at least to me. Some riders have noted that the clutch pull is stiffer than what they may be used to, but it's not stiffer than the clutch on my Slim S. It is however, a lot easier to find "N" than it was with my Slim S. And though the bike is 800 lbs +, it handles nicely, which I'm assuming the suspension has something to do with it.

I've since added a 4.5" Memphis Shades spoiler windshield, the adjustable fairing wind deflectors, and the fork-mounted wind deflectors which have eliminated the helmet buffeting I experienced with just the stock windshield. Other changes I've made include swapping out the headlight with a JW Speaker 8700 evo 2 LED headlight, and the stock turn signals with Custom Dynamics ones. I have a solo seat coming soon and will add a few other cosmetic changes (e.g., windshield trim and stubby antenna), but plan on keeping the exhaust stock for awhile (I heard the street cannons on another 17 SGS and prefer the stock exhaust over the street cannons). The first 400 miles have been extremely fun and I look forward to enjoying this ride for many years to come. Here are a few pictures I took today on the way to the York plant:

Grats on the new bike. I don't own on yet, (delivery in March) but I have ridden the '17 SGS, and I agree with you. Glad you're enjoying it.

Nice looking ride. Like the mods you've done. Would like a little less helmet buffeting as well. I'm going to the M vs Whisky game on Saturday. Should be a good one. Go Blue!

Nice looking bike. I'm also considering trading my slim S but haven't ridden the new bikes yet, here in the uk dealers have them available for test rides from Saturday , Good to hear your views in comparison with the 110 motor, how does engine heat compare with the two ?

Thanks Paul. What engine heat? Seriously, there's a little heat (more pronounced over stock now that I have the fork-mounted wind deflectors), but nowhere near that of the 110. The inside of my right thigh got cooked a lot on the Slim S. I haven't experienced that at all with the M8 SGS. Take a test ride... you won't be disappointed.

You should at least test ride one to compare it to what you currently have, which looks like it's pretty bad a$$ (assuming it's the one in your signature).
