Cost of 1st service
#21
under 100 bucks, doing it myself. Just picked up all the stuff today to get her done. absolutely nothing is hard about changing the fluids on the Harley. I had a Goldwing 1500 (remove Tupperware to get to the filter) and helped a friend change the oil on a yam 1100...(take off the exhaust to change the oil). after all of that, Harleys are very easy to work on.

Well i went to the dealership with my redline oil and the guy wrote on the ticket that all of my oils were in the right saddle bag. After it was done, i opened my right saddle bag to put my jacket in it and there still sat my oil. The tech put SYN3 in it not reading the service ticket I guess. They didnt charge me for the oil since it was their screw up. Total was like $265, besides of the cost of the redline which I now have ready to go for the 5k service lol.

"The preferred viscosities, in descending order are: 20w50, 15w40 and 10w40".
Heck I wouldn't run 15w40 unless I knew the ambient temp wouldn't be above 40 degrees.

Heloguy, I recently saw this suggestion on a YouTube video. Get a fairly long piece of aluminum foil from the pantry and place it under the filter and extended out in a level fashion so that when you spin off the oil filter, the foil captures all of the drained oil. You then carefully remove the foil filled with oil and discard. It saves a lot of clean up. Like yourself, I enjoy changing my own fluids and doing my own services. I always use a torque wrench to reinstall the drain plugs so no worries about some newbie over-torqueing them and ruining the cases.
