Yeh, you are going to have to deal with those cats, somebody said the Daughter was coming over after the shovel.

Thanks, riknbeth.
I've heard some V&H that are very loud. Definitely not anything I'd care to put on this bike. Then I've heard some that are just the right amount of volume. Nice low rumble, and then open up to a nice throaty growl when getting into the throttle. Sounds like the ones on your wife's bike are the latter with the baffles.

Thanks, MJ. Historically I've been exactly the same...stockers gotta go immediately! But I left them on because the only thing available at the time of purchase were the Street Cannons, and for the same reason as the OP I couldn't justify the expense when they didn't sound any different to me on the showroom floor. But now I keep reading more and more favorable reviews, and the increase in volume after a short break-in period.
As far as looks, I personally prefer the 4" over the larger 4.5". Not really sure why cause the Street Cannons are most definitely eye catching!

FYI, I assume the "cats" are still in the head pipe on the 2017's. If that is the case, if planning aftermarket header or decat, the mufflers will be 25% louder. Keep this in mind when buying slipons.

I had the Street Cannons on for about 1300 miles. They definitely wake up after a few hundred miles, and continued to do so, till I swapped them out recently.
