Interesting comment on the plug boots, and one I'll address over the winter. Need to check the wire routing anyway. GM has dielectric on theirs out of the box, and I'm surprised that Harley does not.
Honestly, I think you may be exaggerating the noise and drain plug appearance a bit. Taking it to the dealer will tell the tale. Good luck.
No he's understating it if anything , he posted a video of his pipes in another thread and you can hear it thrashing loud and clear over the pipes. It was an ugly noise for any motor to be making.

TwiZted the video is here also.
The very loud grinding and clatter has been delt with. It was a harmonic. The clatter was some arching from the plug boots that was sounding like excessive valve lash. It is sounding like there might be some piston slap trying to develop. But nobody's for sure about it yet. All of the motors vitlas look good. And she still pulls like a train.
Plan is to see what some spring and summer heat do to it. If symptoms progress, it will be taken care of.

I retract my previous statement. Glad to see he got most of it worked out.
Bouncing off the rev limiter with 500 miles on the engine? If that didn't make you nervous, then something tells me you probably weren't babying it for the first 500 either. Good luck to you.

I thought it was funny when the very first thing the dealer looked at Tuesday was the back tire. I use mechanical pathology as I call it in my profession.
Mine has has crud on magnets since day on and still does at 50k. Keep in mind if there truely is something wrong with it, you may be wanting an expert looking at that dump oil and remember locking it ip at the rev limiter could get you killed. They all sound bad at WOT. It should sound smooth at 2500-3000 in 5. Get U a two ear Harbor Freight mechanic stechoscope and prob all over engine. If all you hear is a smooth whirl sound, it's probley fine. These roller bearing motors like outboards have a tatty noise
