M8 sound versus Twin Cam
#61
Neither the Twin Cam or M8 in any road registerable config sound anywhere near as good as a Shovel with straight pipes and "C" grind cam , even a little "B" grind cam sounds way better.
Cammed Evo's sound better than both but still not as good as a Shovel with a cam and straight pipes on the road hammering it.

I had a shovel … sounded like it was going to fall apart
I had an evo … sounded like it was going to fall apart
I had a twin cam … sounded like it was going to fall apart
Now I have an M8 and you what?
Yup, it sounds like it going to fall apart
Man, just ride and enjoy your bike … until it falls apart

My opinion is nothing sounds like a Panhead or a Shovel, nothing. With that being said, the new motor certainly does sound different than the Twin Cam for obvious reasons. However, it does not sound better, it sounds like a metric bike. Not counting the new stock bikes I've test rode, the only new bike I've heard so far that sounds worth a damn is jclax01's bike with the Rineharts.

I had an early TC88 Road King. When those came out guys were complaining that the Twin Cams sounded too civilized and the fuel injection ruined everything. OMG, it's a Honda. Now I have the M8 107 and it definitely sounds different than the TC. After years of dealing with Harleys and helping other guys wrench theirs I'd say the best way to nasty full-on sound is to do at least cams and full exhaust, or Stage II. That's especially true of the cat bikes. When I bought mine recently they were dialing in one of those new big bore kits on a 114 and it sounded every bit like a Harley to my ear.
"If I buy an M8 Im going to keep it stock. I like loud pipes but I dont want to lose any more hearing.'
Yeah, I actually like mine stock. The relative lack of banging and clanging from the engine helps me to hear the exhaust.
