copied this from the M8 Service Bulletin post

If a customer is concerned with the slow speed idle performance of a vehicle produced with the early calibration, the latest calibration can be installed at customer/dealer expense.

I would have asked them that question. Since it doesn't make any sense at all.
I mean, what difference does it make with a stage one or not. Especially with so many people reporting red engi e light issues with M8's which might be due to a too low idle speed?
MADNESS!

I did a stage 1 and yes, the new calibration file upped the idle to 950. Air/oil cooled, not a wethead. Kinda why I started this thread, I am confused as hell. TSB says applies to ALL TOURING models. Also confused on how its written about ETMS on or off regarding idle speed. Thanks to everyone for trying to sort this out.

Further proof of dealers not being familiar with this........seems like they have heard the complaints of idle speed hunting and too low but not sure what to do about it...............

Thanks... Kinda cracks me up when , if I'm not mistaken, it's simply plug in and update.. It can be downloading while they service it.

I had time today to run into town. I ask dealer about the Flash they did to mine. He said they just went ahead and Flashed it on their dime. There way of looking at it was I would be back anyway so why not just do it.

To further support that some service writers are kinda clueless is, he tried to tell me that raising the idle to 950 after a stage 1 install makes sense because now the engines breathing more air. So it can benefit from the higher idle..Yep, he said that,LOL. Like 950 is taxing the stock intake and exhaust,LOL. I realized at that point its not worth it. The lower idle doesnt bug me......yet.

Been reading the different Threads about issues with the M8.
I'm assuming since my bike was built on 11/3/16 it had been updated,,lol

On 7 out of 10 days my RPM is at 950 RPM, other times it hunts for a steady RPM, bounces from 850 to 950 no matter how many times I restart the bike... Also some days it jumps into ETMS mode at every stop light just normal in town riding (outside temps between 72*-78*), but in ETMS the RPM will go up to around 980 RPM... other days when outside temps are up to 82*, the ETMS might only come on when returning from a ride & jockeying around in my driveway... I have a HD LCD Dipstick Temp gauge and my Oil Temp has never shown more than 224*....

On a cool morning 38-40 Degrees F Idle will speed up a bit at first to 1000 maybe 1050. Settle down to 950 as it warms a bit.
Mine has had the Idle Flash and it can be stalled.

Does this mean that even after you had the idle flashed, it will still stall on it's own? Or when starting from a stop and letting the clutch out, and even with the increased rpm you were holding the throttle for clutch release, the rpm's dropped and the engine stalled?
The second part occurs on my early built 2017 Limited. Since my bike idles at 850, I'm going to see about having service bulletin M1436 applied tomorrow. Maybe that will help with the engine trying to stall. Though I think it's the hydraulic clutch system that they changed for the 17's from the 14 and 15's. That clutch system (once learned) I had no problem with the friction zone. On the 17, the friction zone sometimes seems to change on it's own.
