Having a new Road Glide (450 mi.) myself, the first thing I would recommend would be some bag guards. They aren't hard to put on and can save you some grief while learning those low-speed turns.

Go by your local fire department and see if they have some old fire hose you can have, take that hose and cut it open, wrap it around your crash bars and duct tape it on, then go practice low speed turns all you want. If you do drop the bike the fire hose will protect your bars, not a scratch on them
