Unless it's major source is the hydraulic slave unit...but will be good to see what happens as HD also changed some of the transmission parts and gaskets on the 2018 Softails.

 

What theory is that?

I'm not a trool as some have called me it's a shame harley hasn't got this problem lined out.People pay hard earned money for the M8.I did a lot of Mods to the one i had so i voided my warranty so i got pissed off and got rid of it.I lost a lot but learned a valuable lesson should have waited the 2 years before mods.I wish every one a fix sometime down the road. I really liked the M8 but when you pay that kind of money it should be right.

 

Hi guys, I thought I’d give you a bit of an update from the UK.

On Tuesday 17th Oct I spoke to Harley Davidson Uk Concerning the transmission issue.

The Tech team told me that Harley Davidson were fully aware of the problem and as yet there was no perminant fix.

There are however three fixes in the final stage of the road test, but HD will not release anything until they are satisfied that the fix will be perminant and as a result no time for release can be given. (No information was given as to what the possible fix might be.)

There are also four dedicated teams working on manufacturing parts in relation to the issue.

HD are fully alive and looking at all suggestions made on social media.

I was assured that as soon as a fix was approved my bike would be taken in and the fix applied, but as yet there was no date.

During the conversation there was a great deal of emphasis place on the fix being perminant, which leaves me to believe that various fixes have failed during testing, but the current ones have as yet lasted.

I know it’s not what we have been hoping for but I’m one of those glass half full people so for me at least I feel something is being done.

I thought that was more than a theory.. Steve validated the oil flow with a Plexiglas cover. Once it's observed and validated it's no longer a theory.

 

Back to this.. So what makes you think the softails with the cable clutch system is going to fail.. It's pretty much the layout that has worked from "clunk drive (TM)" twincam tranny since 2006, where first gear can push oil through the bearing.

 

I've done what I can as I've had time to do it. Right now work has kept me plenty busy and HD is now in process of buying one of my 2 bikes back. We will have to wait and see how that all plays out before I do anymore on my other bike. I still have a few other ideas to try but if HD tries to screw me around on the buyback nothing more will happen on my end until its settled.

So if someone else wants to jump in and try things great, but as of today I feel that HD is no closer to fixing it than they were when they first produced and sold the 2017 models. So much for there millions of miles of testing.

 

I hope you get a full refund. It sounds like they have had it more than you have.

 

The bike has a rough total of 500 miles on it. The dealership and the HD Rep have put about 300 of those miles on the bike in testing there fixes! I have done two ~80 mile rides after a supposed fix to check it and each time the results are little to no better than before and returned to dealership. After the last 80 mile trip it ended up with a grand total of 4 oz in the transmission! Then add a few miles each time I've ridden it back and forth to the dealership and that's it. So I have demanded a full refund including tax, Registration ect. We will see what they do.
