My point is, if the oil is well below the surface the dipstick threads into, how does oil get up to it and pushed out through the torn o-ring and out the hole? The trans level was fine so it I didnt lose much, but I'm wondering if there isnt pressure in there, high enough to force oil up and out?
Very common to over tight the dip stick and damage the O ring. It has an O ring so it does not have to be over tighten.

So you lost 1 qt of tranny oil in 1400 miles? Did not damage the tranny?

Today's ride will be short. Not expecting any results with the UV. Wednesday I will put at least another 100 miles into testing the migration.

Today you need to repeat the test with two glasses. This time lay the straw over the top of both glasses not in them, suck and blow away. When you grow tired of sucking and blowing, as a reward you can then empty the two glasses without the straw. I recommend using Crown Royal Cask No 16 as a test fluid.

My build date is 8/16. 17 Limited. First one to buy one at my dealer..Rubber City...when they came out. They did the 1,000 mi. couple weeks after that and rode till around November. Brought it back out and ride everday possible when weather broke in spring. Checked tranny today cold after reading this thread and dipstick is right at top of the X and oil is clean and prmary was just right .

So it was motor oil then? Hard for me to tell it what oil it was from the way it was written.

I had a friend checking on the bearings for me and we found somethings I had seen but did not know. From looking at my '14 transmission and the new '17 the bearings looked different. As it turns out the '17 is suppose to use two different bearings by part number. I do not know which is which at this point, as my bike is together at this point and I'm going for a ride today. This could turn out to be as simple as putting the wrong bearing in the wrong place! That would explain why some are getting lots of transfer and others are not. I had him order the two bearings from HD and will see what we see when they get here. I can then compare which one is supposed to be on which shaft and see if mine is correctly installed.

This is a pretty big turn of events here. That in itself might explain some things which have not been "well defined" up to this point. We will all be eagerly awaiting your assessment of the bearings.
