I've been assured that the Laguna Orange bike will be even faster than the Black Denim I test rode.

Well, I finally got her this afternoon. The wait was harder than I expected. I was pretty excited to get it. I admit all my other bikes and cars, I've basically used the "Moto Man break in method". That is basically under the impression that materials and machine practices are tighter on tolerances today, so to get on it early to seat those rings well. I've broken in three Harleys this way, my dirtbike, and two Mustang GTs and no issues. Still, I'm going to try the Harley method on this one.

Anyway it was a nice humid 93ish degree day in St. Louis. I got maybe 150 miles in, and had brought a frozen bottle of water with me, but just didn't stop to drink it and the sun/heat was tough if you don't stay hydrated.

It runs really nice. Though I think my Wide Glide might be a little faster, due to the lower weight and the fact that it has complete Stage 1 done. I also didn't dog the SGS yet. So maybe I'm wrong.

pic time

Next to my 2012 Wide Glide and Mustang. The Wide Glide is still pretty dirty from my Colorado trip. I only gave it a quick wash, but I get 'em dirty too quickly to constantly be washing.... that said, I want the SGS to stay clean for a while.

You might notice my Wide Glide is missing the rear heat shield. The welds that the clamps run through rusted/broke and I lost it some where on the interstate. But I got the replacement in yesterday, just haven't put it on yet.

You thought your wait was hard?

My dealer couldn't get me one on a dealer trade, there aren't a lot of Laguna Orange in Canada, the other dealers that had one wouldn't give them up. My dealer did have one sitting on factory order. From the day I ordered it, until I received it last night, 3 weeks.

I think it's an amazing color.

Yeah, I guess my wait wasn't so bad. I agree, I fell in love with the color when I saw it. It also made me think, I've now have had four Harleys and all of them had some form of orange paint on them. My Sporty was black and orange, had two Wide Glides with the same paint orange flames on black and now this SGS. Didn't plan it that way. Today, I've had the SGS a week and just over 800 miles on it. I actually rode my Wide Glide into work today. It felt like a whole new bike after spending so much time on the SGS.

Some things I've noticed about the SGS, I think my WG is faster off the start, but that could be due to the feel of the wind hitting me and the sound of the pipes. I routinely run 80mph on the WG on my commute, the other day on the SGS just running down a long straight stretch of interstate or highway and looked down and saw I was running 100mph. Guess I'm not used to a fairing and how smooth and stable the SGS is at speed. I did around 400 miles this past Saturday on the SGS and didn't even really feel those miles. If I had done those miles on the WG, I would have been close to getting to the point of needing to stop and walk around every 60 miles or so. Crosswinds haven't affected the SGS like they do the WG. Then the tar snakes. I've read about them, and have ridden over thousands on the WG without them ever effecting it. This weekend I hit some tar snakes on the SGS in some slight curves, and got some funky slippage a bit that startled me at first. I think the SGS has a farther lean angle than my WG, as the floorboards I have on the WG are low and tend to scrape pretty easy. I don't think I've gotten the SGS even close to scraping and I rode some nice twisty Ozark roads this weekend.

I thought it only happened to me! on both my 2010 ultra classic and now on my new 2017 ultra limited, i run over those tar snakes and the rear wheel slips out ever so slightly. it startled the **** out of me when it first happened, now im kinda used to it. I do try to avoid them if i can.
