Default 2017 Street Glide Special Break-In

Traded my deluxe for a 17 street glide special in great pumpkin and I'm loving the M8 engine. I've had it for about 10 days and I have 117 miles on it. This is my first brand new Harley and 3rd overall. I am making sure that I follow all of the break in rules given to me by Harley and my dealership. I ride mostly on back roads and streets ensuring that I am varying Rpms and speeds in each gear and I do a short 5 miles of interstate at a time and then get back on the smaller 55 mph and below city driving. I keep the Rpms below 3000 in every gear for the first 500. I'm just taking it easy and breaking it in for this first 500 miles. The results seem to really be working because every day the engine is just smoother and smoother. The power absolutely rules on the interstate too.

As soon as I hit 500 I'm going to ride it like I stole it.

Anyone agree or disagree with this method? Thanks!

You can't go wrong following the MoCo's recommendations.

I'm happy you posted this... I purchased a new 2017 SGS about 2 weeks ago. I just hit 180 miles on mine. I was under the impression from the dealer that I had to keep it under 3000 rpm's until I hit the 1000 mile. I'm happy to see you post that it only needs to go to 500 miles.

I may be looking at the break in different but after 4 heat cycles and 200 miles I have taken our 2017 trike to 4000 rpms and my fuel mileage is improving and I will get more aggressive , not hammering to the red line for another 200 miles just stretching its legs

You had the bike almost 2 weeks and only have 117 miles on it, That would have been on mine in the first 3 hours of ownership for me.

I read the article in the link, it does seem to make sense but I would like more info/research before trying it out on a new $30,000 bike. Do you know of any threads where they have talked a great deal about this method.
