So, if you are out of the 60 day window, the mods are not covered by the bike's 2 year warranty, but they are covered for 1 year after the install date. Essentially, once January 2018 hits, my engine and mufflers will no longer be under warranty. The rest of the bike will be until November 2018.

I don't do extended warranties, but if I had, my engine would not be covered. If I had done the upgrade within the 60 day window, it would have been eligible for coverage under their extended warranty.

My view is as that if the engine grenades, as long as the cases are good, the rest is easily rebuilt. That's why Wide Open Cycles, Fuel Moto, GMR, and VeeTwin Racing are in business. Hell, Kirby is building $3K TC 124's, M8 shouldn't be too much more.

As for transmissions, I bet Baker has a solid solution.

I may be wrong, but believe the coverage then is only parts and not labor for 1 year

That could be. I didn't ask if labor was covered, just specifically the engine/power train/bike.

It was brought up in this thread if a non harley tuner leaves a permanent footprint in the ECM and how it is recorded. Maybe Steve Cole could answer this one. I don't plan to make any mods, just curious.

I don't think it matters. I own the EPA legal tuner, so I can flash it a million times. It may show counts from flashing, but how many times did the dealer flash it?

I do not think the above timelines are correct. Reading from the advertising card HD sent to me on my new bike purchase is states:

" Harley-Davidson limited opportunity to purchase new accessories and have them installed at an authorized Harley-Davidson dealership and receive the Custom Coverage extended Limited Warranty rather than the standard 90 day Parts and Accessories post purchase over the counter warranty."

It goes on to say that the Street Legal parts will only be covered "for the balance of the remainder of the motorcycles 24-month warranty".

This leads me to believe if you do not have the parts purchased and installed within the 60 day window of new delivery, you only have a 90 day parts only warranty on HD street legal parts, period. Also, it says the balance of the 24 month warranty so I would not think it would be covered on any extended warranty plan coverage either. Just another example of the bean counters and there fancy wording in the paperwork.
