Default tire howl

10,605 miles on my tires. Im used to getting some howl from the front tires as they wear, mostly noticeable in turns as they cup some over time. lately im getting a howl on my new bike from the rear tire, under braking and in turns.

On my last inspection I found these cracks, they go all the way around and are on both sides. not visible in the pic you can see a faint shadow between each crack as well. I suspect its something to do with the multi tread compound.

I put my original wheels and tires on that came on the bike and the howl is all gone. Im turning this tire in for a warranty claim, wish me luck.

The howl is probably cupping and will start to occur at that mileage on even a good tire without "cracks". There are ways to fix that pretty easily so you can get the most of that rear before having to change it.

Anyway, fingers crossed for you. I've seen a few examples of that crack running around on the net lately. Something to do with the manufacturing process maybe.

Good Luck on the warranty claim sixguns. The cupping can be seen in the pic. First thing they are going to say is under inflation. The cracks are right along your straight line riding direction and with weight compression on the tire it's working the core of the tire. IE the cupping and cracks.

Good Luck Sir.

These dual compound rear tires cup and howl, especially when laid over hard in a curve.

On my 17 CVO Street glide, started howling and cupping by 6000 miles, replaced at 14K.

My 13 CVO king it was about 14K when they started cupping and howling, replaced at 19K. Same with the 12 CVO road glide and the 09 CVO road glide.

They all use the same tire, not sure why the 17 is howling sooner, cupping sooner and wearing faster.
