The dealer offers the 1K service free, but I am sure it is paid for in the setup fee or else where.

Is there a list of what is done during the 1k service? My dealer didn't list on the invoice my Primary and Trans fluid being changed.

they pretty much follow the Factory Service schedule for the 1K which for example doesn't need spark plugs, air filter and hydraulic moisture test...but they swap all fluids, check belt tension, check critical fasteners and give it a general overall inspection for the most part to make sure nothing is loose or problematic, check for TSBs and software updates, stuff like that..it's basic maintenance and CYA service

I was charged 383, thats with the veteran discount. I bought my own oil. The bike seemed to run better. I think they may have flashed the ECM. Before I bought my bike in, the idle was about 850, now its closer to 1000. Maybe its just me, but I think it runs stronger, it feels different. Mobile 1 in engine, redline in tranny, Harley formula plus in the primary.......

New owners who think they got a great deal on their new bike and got the dealer to throw in free services need to wake up.The only way a dealer throws in free service is if they are making a good profit off the deal.Sales dept. has to pay the service dept. for this service which is at a lower cost then retail but still a cost. Now when you are done dealing and the sales mgr. refuses to give you any free service, you probably have a rock bottom deal and will only get a free tee shirt.

Or... you could get them to throw in all three service manuals, a belt tension gage, and a oil filter drip funnel

varies case by case, circumstances, etc..wife and I have bought many bikes from our dealership..when we traded in her Tri Glide and my Road King for new M8's we still had to battle for the deal we wanted which we eventually got, then said we need all old bike take off parts put on the new ones for no charge..they balked and we worked them for awhile saying it's a deal breaker if not..they caved and it was about $800 labor to have everything we wanted changed over to the new bikes..you already get 25% off the 1K with new purchase and our service dept offers a 20% mileage challenge discount to our HOG Chapter members so we paid about $500 for both our 1K services total...just have to be prepared for battle to win
