Great idea! I never thought of the washer as a permanent fix. The clamp comes off easily, I'll try the center punch idea. It's a fairly large gap but I have a some big hammers lol.
I just can't stop wondering "why, Harley?"

Slip on is not the problem as I started to hear the noise prior to changing pipes. Just a slight rattle but noticeable. Any ideas??
I have a 2017 sgs with the same problem. I put a strip of gasket material from a wood stove glass door on the inside of the lower heat shield and a piece under the cross over clamp. Had my first rattle free ride in over 3000 kms .

I have a rattle and took it into Harley and they diagnosed it as a loose heat shield. They tried to charge me $18 to tighten it up.

Noise is still there.

Mine has a rattle. Finally found out it was my brake lever vibrating up against my heat shield

Bought the 2019 SGS and have this noise as well. Made first service but nothing changed. I thing the noise comes from the top of the engine. I have the video with the sound. Did you have the same?
