Default Noise on cold startups

Hi everyone.

This is my first post, Leonardo from Brazil here. Just bought a 2017
street glide street glide
Special, amazing bike, it's my seventh harley. Bike runs great, it has about 440 miles in one week. I'm being careful with the break in procedure. The only thing strange that previous bikes didn't show is a loud whining at cold startup. Seems to come from the valves and it quiets down as the oil circulates and the bike gets warm. When the bike gets warm engine gets quiet at starts. So, anyone with the Milwaukee Eight has the same behavior with the engine? Thanks!

i think that noise is the fuel pump, if so its normal mine does it when i flip the ON switch right before i hit the start button.

It's not the fuel pump. It starts when I crank the engine and is way louder than the fuel pump noise. And quiets down when the engine gets warmer and the oil circulates.

Mine does this too. I've tried to track it down but whenever I get close it warms up and goes away. I'm pretty sure the whining noise is coming from the intake.

If, your bike for whatever reason got shipped with the incorrect weight oil this could be a cause. Extreme cold weather calls for a lighter weight oil, extreme heat climates call for a heavier weight oil.

Not sure the climate in your area but if it were me, I'd run just 20-50 in all three holes and see if that clears it up. Sounds like the oil is taking time to heat up and make the friction go away which is a sign of to heavy weight of an oil.

Just my 2 cents, I'm probably wrong I would start there. Also, check the oil level if you haven't already done so.

Mine does that as well. It scared me for a while but it only does it for about a min after the first start of the day when the engine is cold.

Mine doesn't make that sound, neither do any of the other M8's I've heard.

Well, I see some people has the noise and others don't. My only concern is premature wear of head parts. Oil is syn3 20w50 here in Brazil when delivered. I guess it's not winter related since temperatures here are above 17 C / 62 F. I'll have it checked at 1k service.

I checked mine again yesterday. It's coming from the intake.

How anyone can say theirs does or does not without even hearing the noise is beyond me.
When your unsure of a noise you really need to let someone that knows the difference listen to it.
