If I shift into 6th at that speed it drops to just a little over 2000 and feels like it's lugging just a little. The only time I use 6th is out on the interstate going 70 mph +.
There is no way there is a 1000 rpm difference between 5th and 6th gear.

I don't skip gears on the way up. However, for what it's worth, I skip gears about every time I come to a stop.

Totally agree with Knuck. Seems to me it would hard on the trans, maybe not but the reasoning behind doing it doesn't make sense.

sometimes I start in 2nd, skip 3rd and 5th.

Just like my 3 speed flathead.

Kidding mostly, but as long as you use the clutch no damage will be done.

I didn't say there was. I said it drops to "just a little over" 2000. It's probably around 2200 to 2300. Not exactly lugging but low enough that I have to downshift back into 5th if I start to pull a hill at that speed.

If I'm loafing along granny shifting, I usually do 1,3,5 and then 6th at cruising speed. In traffic, all the gears..
My fun ride (foot clutch, hand shift - see my profile) has a two speed and you gotta let the RPMs drop to shift, gives a great appreciation for the 6 speed HD transmission.

Screw it, get a slipper clutch and run single gear like a snowmobile. That will eliminate the need for shifting altogether.

A slipper clutch is not the same as a CVT gearbox.
