Default M8 optimal rpms at cruise

What are the optimal rpms for each gear when cruising in that gear?
Anyone know the answer to this or where to find it?

Your owners manual, but.... Really?

But outside of what should be an innate sense of how to ride, optimal for what? Gas mileage? Performance?

Optimal is what feels right to you, rule of thumb is anything below 2000 above 3rd gear you're lugging it. Aside from that run it where it makes you happy the bike doesn't care.

Agreed, most of the time I don't look at the tach while riding....... check your owners manual.

I just did 1200 miles on my bike. I set the cruise control at 78 to 80 mph and rode on. the tach was right at 3000 rpm in 6th gear. she was real happy cruising at that speed.

2600-3200 usually when I look. I don't live by the tach though.

I read an article once that the stated that you should run your engine at the max torque RPMs. In our case 3,250 RPM. His reasoning was that at max torque RPMs the engine is running at it's highest efficiency. That being said, I cruise in 5th if I'm cruising highway speeds less than 110 km/h; 110 km/h and over 6th. That puts me right around 3,000 RPM.....Al
