I got the extended Warranty on my '09 last year. Saved me $1,000 on an oil leak. I canceled it when I traded up to my '17. If I still have it when it expires, I will get the extended warranty.

A better choice right now would be to upgrade your HOG package to the top one. It's $50, and you get unlimited towing/ unlimited pick ups... and a $1,000 for motels and food if it is a Warranty issue.

I did that. One time this summer I was 750 miles away from the closest dealer. The $100 you get in the basic package would disappear pretty quick on a tow like that.

My 2017 was towed twice this summer. Once for a flat tire, once because the rear wheel bearing let lose. The first one cost me a tire.... the second one cost me notta.

If it's a Bar Bike, why bother..... if you are a traveler, it's worth it.

XM, TPMS, garage door opener, power locks, water cooling pump and radiators, CB, Intercom, backlit hand controls, BOOM sound system and Navigation. Add accessories during the first 60 days after purchasing the bike and you'll have coverage on all those dealer addons. Stage 4 kit would be another $4500 covered for the life of the ESP. Coolfan, exhaust and any other accessories added during those first 60 days can really make the value of the ESP an excellent investment if all your accessories are also covered.

The more complex the bike is, the more likely something will fail during the term of the ESP.

If you're looking to save money vs the HD ESP you might consider the Cornerstone ESP which has excellent coverage and eliminates HD's $50 deductible.
exactly..my Road King falls under the Touring bike category and subsequent price chart..hell if I'm paying the same as somebody that has all that other crap covered that isn't on my bike..I do much of my own service and my MC Insurance covers a lot of the same stuff like towing, rental, accommodations, etc, albeit not apples to apples coverages..so the clock starts ticking after 2 years with me ahead $2000 and I can afford to deal with whatever happens beyond that

Just for comparison, a 7yr warranty WITHOUT a $50 deductible is around $1200 at discountesp.

I just read the Discountesp contract. It does has a $50 deductible, not an issue, but does not specify that the electronic dash is covered. It also only covers up to $300 for motels, food. And it is only good in the US and Canada.

The Harley one has more, better?, coverage. That dash out of warranty would not be cheap. And I was told the Harley one is global. I will need to look into that.

Default worth the money

my 2014 ultra limited came with extended warranty. Fairbanks Alaska dealer replaced water pump for $850, took 6 days to get next day air delivery. cost me $50 and they paid $500 towards room while waiting. Colorado dealer replaced front wheel bearings for $350 cost me $50. rode 21,000 miles last year. I will purchase new warranty next month for 5 years cost $2500 that's $500 year

Cheap... not even a cup of coffee a day.

I dont buy Motorcycles to save money..... I buy them to ride, and spend money.

I stand corrected. The DiscountESP used to have $0 deductible which was an advantage over HD's ESP. Looks like they are matching HD's deductible now. In addition to similar parts coverage the 2 plans covered the following extras.

HD's ESP (Global) provides:
- $75/day for a rental vehicle ($750 max).
- up to $150/day for meals $ lodging ($450 max)
- up to $200 for towing to HD Dealership

Discount ESP (US & Canada) provides:
- $35/day for a rental vehicle ($350 max)
- up to $100/day for meals & lodging ($300 max)
- up to $100 (in excess of other towing coverage) for towing to any facility
- There is a separate "Touring" package that will cover all the electronics in the dash of a fairing HD.

On a 7yr policy for a new touring bike, there's about a $1000 difference between the 2 ESP policies depending on the discount you get from your dealership.

Both are transferable ($50 transfer fee for DiscountESP) and both can be canceled for a refund of the remaining time left on the policy.

who does Harley's ESP, a third party or the moco? I was told I can add the ESP up to the end of my regular 2 year warranty. I did not know it would cost more, $300, after 30 days of the purchase. That being said, I probably only put around 3k miles on a year, maybe more. For me, I could choose to add it, or trade in. I think my wife would prefer to add it rather than trade it in. Besides, I could add another 2 years, then trade in when it runs out. My next Harley would be a RGU, not an Ultra Limited, by then I would probably buy my last bike........
