Default Should I get extended warranty on a 2018 RoadGlide Special?

Waiting for a 2018 Road Gilde Special to arrive and not sure if I will get extended warranty. As a rule, I never get it with any purchases and rarely have issues to justify it. Howeve, there are so many issues reported here in the M8 forum, it is hard to gauge how common the problems are in the real world.

I am in Canada, an extra 3 years is around $1500. We don't lose warranty for EPA issues like exhaust here, dealers will put on any exhaust that fits with full warranty. So with he customization I will do, doubt I'll have any impact on warranty.

That's $500 per year, $41.67 per month, is it worth the peace of mind to you?

I didnt, I feel the same way as you do about extended warranty. That being said, Im thinking about going back and buying it. I havent had any problems with my M8 so I will gauge how it is next summer and possibly add it. Ask your dealer if you can come back and add it later, mine said I could so...... You can also buy it from any dealer, you may want to price check as well. Good luck and enjoy your new ride, you will love it.

I would do as others have said, see if you can buy the extended warranty when the 2 year is about to expire. Things change and you may not even own it in 2 years or you will want to get a different bike. I like to keep my options open.

I bought a new Road King that had the first year of the Twin Cam. That motor had its issues just like the new M8. The lesson I learned was to wait at least a few years before buying any new motor from Harley. I will be in the market for a new M8 maybe next year or 2020. By then they should have the issues ironed out.

This is just me and my opinion, but I would NEVER buy any extended warranty. The only extended warranty that paid off for me was the one I got for my Xbox. but that was very cheap so why not.

I think if you put a lot of miles on it - say 12-15K miles/year, your getting close to being worth it, in my opinion.

If you're a weekend warrior, 2k miles /year, I wouldnt bother

As said if you put on a bunch of miles a year yes, but if you don't put that money towards some add on's for that new bike, like take out that CAT and get some new slipons for a start.

My thoughts on extended warranty:

1. Usually better option to purchase at end of factory warranty

2. If it didn’t break in first 2 years probably not going to break after

3. What kind of damage could happen that would cost more than the warranty?

4. How sure are you that you would have the bike for duration of extended warranty?

Me personally I have never bought an extended warranty nor will I ever start. I have yet to lose going this way whereas if I would have paid for warranties I would be out of money.

All that bull crap they peddle in the finance office is exactly that...bull crap. There is so much profit to be had on the back end it’s unreal. That’s why you will notice your guy in the back office is a little more savvy and suave than the sales guy that sold you the bike. I worked at a dealership and the finance guys are the rockstars and you have to work your way to that position.

I wouldn't especially if you plan to mod. If anything is going to break it will give up the ghost before the two year warranty is up

And there aren't "a lot" of issues with the M8 FYI

I didn't. I know at the end of the 2 yr warranty I will be putting a real tuner on it, and will very likely be switching to a better aftermarket cam (I have the torque cam in it now).

Im still unsure if a decatted header is ok under warranty, so I'll probably wait on that too.
