Default Oil Pressure Monitor just says "OK"

On my 2014 SGS, the oil pressure monitor would give an actual number of what the PSI level was. On my 2018 SGS, it either says "OK" or "Check Oil". I checked the owner's manual and you can't change it to give you an actual PSI reading.

Wonder why they changed it? Too many people freaking out when the oil pressure would drop at idle causing them to return to dealer?

Exactly.... there was a thread on this same subject in the early summer or maybe even before that. Its the new norm.... Obviously, as long as it is OK, all is good. It certainly isnt what we're used to but there are other things to keep an eye on..... The early early issues with the oil pumps seems to be solved.

Yeah some people got all excited and would call dealers so they took the reading out. But sure isn't the best idea.

That's also why there is no temperature gauge. What people "think" is normal, isn't. There would be panic among the masses.

Or was it a genius idea??? You now have to buy a digital/analog dipstick that I think is around $100 bucks........if you want true readings.

Those aftermarket dipstick with temp readings are junk, they fall apart, haze out. Never seen one that was right. I've had them, even swapped one with a buddy and got completely different readings.

I had one on my 2014 SGS, seemed to work fine. I just put one the 2018 SGS, time will tell how that one works out.

Agreed. Unnecessary, also. The new bikes take care of themselves. They have an operating strategy to deal with overheat conditions, so why do I care about the oil temp? Oh...I don't.

Well it was more of a direct answer to the OP's concerns of not having a true reading for oil anymore.

So if some do care about that, they now require you to buy one....whether it works correctly or is junk I dont know. I know harley offers one as well as aftermarket manufacturers.
