Indian Motorcycles died in 1953, plain and simple.

Indian is developing a new engine, with an outside consultant. I can't say anymore.

Indian 0% finance. Rebates and finance on everything Polaris sells . Victory signs still on a Polaris dealers.
Motley fool still taking jabs at HD . They got their buts handed to them with Victory, trying to make some of the money back on Indian.

I guess your suggesting that Indian will just "can" the 111 and go directly to water cool?

The VIctory was set to fail EPA, I heard that was one of the deciding factors in ending the brand.

I'd say HD is pulling out all the stops to keep the "Air Cooled V-Twin" alive.. And make more smooth power at the same time..
I'd say HD is right on track..
Somebody sure has drank lots of HD cool aid...

"The traditional engine is HD"? Check the history, "Indian" developed the first V-Twin.

This is the response to the above statement......

"The 111 is already obsolete, after 4 years"? ... The Twin Cam 88's been around since 99, that's 18 years, who's obsolete. The band-aid M8 is still 45 deg, pressed crank, split rods, that's 50's technology. M8 has also reduced their cost by using parent metal bearing surfaces, hidden radiator and adding more leaking points. Don't forget about the leaking primary's to the engine.

Yea, "Pulling out all the stops to keep the air cooled V-Twin alive". Wet heads that leak since day 1, chain tensioners that blow up the engine when they wear out at 30k, oil pumps that fail and burn up engines and all the many, many other re-calls that originate from piss poor engineering.

The best engine that HD has is the V-Rod and they didn't design it. Lets talk about how they have owned the flat track for years until Indian came along.

Maybe you should go back to the HD forums, they have more HD cool-aid there.

This was an interesting exchange on one of their forums.....

http://www.indianmotorcycles.net/thr....181473/page-4

Fact is, these guys spent big money on the Indian and they ain't gonna budge and say they bought an inferior bike, not gonna happen but almost half the threads in that forum have the words Harley Davidson and a comparison between the two. Yep, their pissed!

Can't blame a guy for having a chip on his shoulder when he bought a bike under the proud 'Indian" name to find out half of it's made overseas and you can't get it wet without it rusting.

On another note, no warranty threads for non-epa compliant stuff. The dealers are being told not to say a word about it and for Indian, there's not that much aftermarket. Fuelmoto does have a few items along with a handful of other good aftermarket companies.

According to a friend of mine who owns an indian dealership locally, Polaris was willing to take it in the shorts and not expect a profit for the first 5 years.
What their profit margin looks like now is unknown to me.

One thing for sure, they're pulling out all the stops but in my opinion, they were doomed before they ever made the first bike because no youngster wants to buy one of those 1950's looking beasts. It's a chick magnet if your chick is over 60..

As of July, Polaris boasted a 17% increase in market share for Q2, and HD reported a 6.7% decline. But HD still commands a near 50% share of the market.

HD's big baggers are the best, and they enjoy a very loyal customer base at it relates to the touring scene. But where the MOCO really needs to nail it is with the younger riders. It will be really interesting to see how the 18's impact the 35 and under age group over the coming months.

[QUOTE=ChrisHo;16648967]Polaris needs to up their game. They presented their 2018 model lineup at the end of July and only now are they trickling in to dealerships and I do mean trickling. At least Harley got theirs on the showroom quickly and into customer's hands fast.

Polaris is probably too busy producing off road 4 wheelers, etc.

This thread has me thinking maybe I should take mine back. 16,000 + miles and no trouble yet. I must have gotten one that slipped through the cracks.

glebo 09-18-2017 02:05 PM

Yeaah, I'll stick with Harley. I just got a Road King M8 this past Mar and love the hell out of it.

I think I read something on Indians hear last yr or so abt the Bigger Indians steering heads cracking, something abt the metal they are made of...

Oh well, no bashing from me. To each their own...

Casper 09-18-2017 02:06 PM

I like the Indian Vintage, but not the others...would I buy one? If I had the extra cash around....but I'd much rather buy a old Panhead....sure miss my 57
