Sorry you got nailed by the truck. That's ridiculous that some kid did that.

Most likely you bumped the kill switch with your hand at the light, its right next to the "start" switch and its easy to do. Once that is switched, you can't start the bike at all until you flick it back to the run position again.

While I haven't done it to mine, should be easy to take the module apart and simply de-activate the switch permanently in a few minutes. Good luck

TwiZted ... first I'm glad you're ok and that the bike only scuffed the crash bar.
The clutch interlock switch is part of the Left Hand Control Module (left switch pack) that is part of the Canbus wiring. I don't think you can disable the switch without affecting other functions such cruise control, gear indicator and possibly how the bike idles. IIRC some members had problems with stalling that was attributed to a bad clutch switch. I would have your dealer replace the switch pack so that your bike starts in gear and the other functions work as well.

As for those that never had a clutch interlock (safety) switch, it's been on all models since the 2007 models.

This is like the 4th time I've read a new M8 died at a stop light and wouldn't start unless the bike was put into neutral. Must be a faulty clutch safety switch. I'm sure the moco has gotten word and hopefully they will address it with a recall.

yeah, they know..but since they have replaced ours with the same thing and it's failing not sure they would issue a recall until they actually have a solution in place

Discovered something about the RK, it's heavy. No damage I can find but a mark or two on the crash bar chrome low down underneath. Just pisses me off to no end about that switch it's got to go.
The support for the footboard will be scraped as well. You'll want to touch up the paint for it doesn't rust.

Figured it was something like that I sat in the garage last night playing with all sorts of combinations to see if I could start in gear with the clutch in and no joy just would not do it. Time to play the dealer service shuffle.

They've been using this tech for years so I bet they used a different part number or manufacturer for the M8's which is why we're getting failures.

Happens to car companies all the time.

I can start my 17 Ultra Classic in any gear with the clutch pulled in. Maybe it a broken circuit stops it from starting

My bike got bumped and knocked over it broke the kickstand up top where the bolt goes down... any way I looked and looked trying to figure out how it was laying on it's side, what happened is it got hit square in the brake light assy.
