Default M8 Transmission side cover and cam cover

Hello, I'm wanting to replace my chrome transmission side cover and my chrome cam cover before I install my new exhaust. I realize both of these just bolt right on, but when I remove the old covers will any liquids or oil come out?? Or is it just literally unbolting and bolting the new ones up? I'm not the most mechanically inclined person, so please don't make fun of me too bad haha

You will lose a little oil and about half the transmission fluid.

You will lose fluid out of the cam cover...

Also... be super certain you torque those bolts to spec and in the proper sequence. Don't ask me how I know.

You will lose some... Do it all together with fluids change. My recommendation is to order and install James gaskets. I did it the same on my previous FLHX, drove over 50,000 and no problems at all.

The M8 trans cover is just cosmetic, it does not even use a gasket. There is no oil behind it.

I put the trans cover on. I thought it would be a five minute job but there is no way of getting it on without at least loosening the exhaust. The cam cover will require removal of the exhaust. You will also need a new gasket with the cam cover. The trans cover is cosmetic. No fluid loss. I put the Defiance covers on. They look good but they were more work than expected.

Ya I'm wanting to change these covers out because I'm putting new exhaust on. Just figured I'd get all this done while the exhaust was off. Thanks

If you were to replace your covers with custom covers you will need a different gasket HD dealers have them in stock.

This only applies to the derby cover.
