Sorry forgot. You should have someone sit on the bike whilst you check it.There will be a bit less tension.Just forget about it and enjoy the bike.
Just the opposite.
The belt will get tighter with a rider/weight on it. As far as why to check or adjust it? Why not to insure it's correct? A final drive belt that's too tight can cause bearing failures. HD has shipped motorcycles that needed replacement engines in the last year. It's not inconceivable that one may have been shipped with a drive belt over tensioned. OP, this is the internet. You ask a simple question and you're gonna get 15 different answers. Some of them right and some of them wrong.
Get this, JIMS Third Hand Belt Tension Tool, as it makes the adjustment really easy and no change to it when you torque axle. Also Harley tool for nut and you can do it without removing right muffler.
Moco does not include belt adjustment anymore when dealers prep a new bike. They are delivered with belt banjo tight and Moco feels they will loosen during break in. I have found that untrue on my last two new bikes and have had to loosen belt to specs and then never had to readjust it.
These belts are really tough and trouble free. I just inspect mine now and then looking for rocks, cracks and/or holes. If you have to replace the belt I would stick with the Harley belt because you will get a lot more miles out of it. Should last a 100,000 miles or more.
I tighten mine to where I can just twist the belt 45 degrees in the middle with thumb and fore finger. Haven't had any belt problems doing it that way.
Just amazes me how this forum can turn every non issue into an issue?Based on his original statement he dosnt know if the belt is too tight he just thinks it is.For goodness sake Dude, just run it down to the Shop and ask a technician to put a finger on it!

Yep. Gotta say that they got it right, right from the get-go with the belt drives. Never had the slightest problem with 'em. Best final drive system out there.
