Bought an Ultra limited with Stage 3 upgrade, used (3500 miles), November 2017, from a dealership, extended warranty etc... Bike was originally bought in November 2016. First generation of everything related to M8.

This is how it started: riding back from a 500 miles trip b/w San Diego and San Jose, 3000 RPM, cruise control on for an hour. It was hot. motor was hot, outside was 78-ish. Bike had 4500 miles on it. My top end started ticking *really bad* when the throttle was just slightly opened.

Went for my 5K service a week after, I mentioned about an abnormal top end ticking when throttle is slightly opened. A bad sound in my primary (unrelated). Of course I got the "it's normal" answer, that stage 3 tops tick...etc. but I've been riding for 25 years, about 18K to 25K miles a year... sorry but I know when I hear something wrong. Anyway, I let go. got the bike serviced. all good.

Top end clicking keeps amplifying. I go back to my dealership telling them "it sounds like it's not oiled properly": it's normal. Again. OK

Took the bike from San Diego to AZ bike week, hot weather, cruising around 3000RPM (for like 2 hours, after passing a summit), bike has 8500 miles on it and bang... my cam starts to make a terrible grinding noise. I was lucky enough and was able to pull at the Mesa dealership (GREAT techs there BTW, best service department I ever ran into!).
Pump sumping, cams dead, piston, cylinders...etc. Brand new stage 3 under warranty (they refused to change the block).

Now, I don't trust my bike anymore. I doubt anything was "fixed". I passed everything "for the record" to a lawyer.
Good luck guys!
Unfortunately my 3rd 117 Stage IV engine sumped last night. Very disappointed. https://www.hdforums.com/forum/milwa...-it-again.html

Seems like more and more failures. So sorry to hear Heatwave and SlyB, mines tore down in the shop right now and haven’t heard what they found yet. Either way we all know they don’t have a real fix yet. Talked with S&S on Friday, they have a high performance oil pump in the works but it’s months out and Harley of course won’t recognize any aftermarket fixes. So disappointing.

man reading 23 pages of this scares me. I bought my 17RGS in Dec 17 and have been to Afghanistan pretty much the entire time I've had it. I have managed to put about 1700 miles on it with no problems but I haven't ridden the way I want to since its been mostly break in. Since I haven't had any problems (yet) would it be wise to have a new oil pump put in while its still fresh?

My ‘18 CVO Limited lasted 1955 miles. Did about 400 on new motor this weekend. And 900 coming up for DC ride this weekend. Fingers crossed 🤞

2017 M8 w/ Stage 4 114”. 4100 miles and mine sumped this last weekend, was 3 quarts low on the dipstick. Dealership disassmbled it and send photos and videos of it. Got word from Harley today that they approved the dealership to replace flywheel, oil pan, oil pump, oil cooler, oil cooler lines, and any other worn/damaged parts.

So stupid. Why not just replace the whole damn engine, crate replacement?
