2018 M8----Sumping? Failures?
 

You 2018 M8 Riders- Anyone have sumping issues yet? Engine failures?

I have not seen any 18's posted up with sumping issues yet. Issue solved for 2018's? Maybe new oil pump is working? Maybe the cylinders are machined and matched properly?

Sorry to hear that. Hope they get this resolved for you as well as everyone else.

The technical service bulletin that Harley issued covers all 2017 and all 2018 M8's, so all are potentially capable of developing the sumping issue. And it is not limited to Stage III or Stage IV either, the service bulletin says that it could happen to any M8.

As far as I know, the oil transfer/migration issue is limited to Touring bikes, I don't think any Softail owner has reported that issue.

Not talking about the Trans to Primary migration here.

Are you referring to TSB M1450? That one specifically says 2017. If you are referring to another TSB, please post it.

The 2018's are shipping with the "updated" Oil Pump and who knows if HD did anything else to help alleviate the issues. I posted the thread in hopes that NO ONE would post about a cratered 2018. That lasted all of 5 minutes.

Yes I'm referring to 2018 model year bikes. Those with engines that were built prior to 10/10/17 are subject to, and I believe have been reported with, engine sumping.

As sixguns posted, the new service bulletin covers all iterations of the M8, all variations, all sizes (107, 114, 117) and all stages, and all models (softail, touring, trikes) and model years (2017 & 2018).

Those 2018 models built after 10/10/17 are supposed to have the new oil pump in them already. Anyone getting a Stage III or Stage IV upgrade, who doesn't already have the 10/10/17 oil pump, gets one installed.

I am keenly interested in this topic because I have a 2018 M8, that says it was built in 10/17. So I don't know if I have the new oil pump or not. Sad thing is, I believe there are already reports that the "new, improved" oil pump is not solving the issue. Note that in the service bulletin, they list no less than six oil pump part numbers that are considered "problem" part numbers. That includes pumps 62400178 and 62400182, which are the most recent pumps. They have apparently introduced a running change to the 62400178 and 62400182 as of 10/10/17, so that those pumps are supposed to fix the problem. But you're supposed to check the date on the box of the oil pump to know if it was made after 10/10/17.

Yes, but point being -- they've had six oil pumps already for the M8; the "revised" oil pumps make #'s 7 and 8. And IINM there have been reports from owners that even those part # oil pumps have sumped on 'em.

I thought your bike was a 2017 CVO? Do you have a 2018 that it happened on?
