2018 Sport Glide, Cat removal
#22
This ^^^^ so true.
Before you remove a cat, consider a carbon footprint you are leaving by doing so. Maybe you don't care - but it's all one planet that we all share and leave to our children and grandchildren. I for one, avoid riding behind smelly, polluting motorcycles as they foul the air I'm riding in - but that's just me.

That is why I removed mine years ago, less heat but more important, slightly better, deeper sound.

My dad has a 14 Street Glide with just a set of cans for sound. Last summer he was talking about amping up the bike a bit, so I suggested he pick up an intake and a tuner, and hog out the cats from the exhaust so he didn't have to buy that $500 open exhaust from V&H. My point was to do it all over a short period of time, and the tuner was mandatory for any further mods.
He doesn't have welding skills but he did find some outfit over in Florida that'll sell you gutted headers for $50. He picked one up at Daytona, and an intake, and I found him a Dobeck TFI tuner on eBay for $100.
My bro-in-law helped him put on the tuner and even with just the base settings he loves how much more pull the bike has in the midrange, and how much cooler it runs. In FL, that's important.
His gas mileage didn't move, and it's got a slightly more full tone to the exhaust pulse. He's happy, and now he's talking cams.

Please, I'm asking you, PLEASE stop talking out of your ***. Cat Converters came into play WAYYYYYYYY after internal combustion engines were on the streets. It's ENTIRELY an emissions device, absolutely ZERO benefit on anything with a motor other than cleaner exhaust.
Many of the hobby classes of NHRA and NASCAR (Bracket racing and Circle track at a local level) require noise restrictions, and we have found that a performance vehicle can perform nearly as well with a restrictive exhaust with well tested and planned tuning.
Although, I prefer the loud exhaust (I am not going to try to justify it, loud pipes save lives, free exhaust has higher performance, etc...) I believe we all should have loud exhaust, or quiet, as you wish........despite all of the crybabies.

No, it's actually true. Well, mostly true, in that I said it was "a lot bigger" than both, it's only "a lot bigger" than one, and a little bigger than the other. One's a 1.8L Chevy Sonic, the other's an old Prius with a 1.5L.
If it's a 2018 Heritage, then it's in the muffler. All the 2018 Softails (except the Fat Bob) have the catalysts in the mufflers.

I have a 2019 SGS with screaming eagle tuner I’m looking to remove the cat if I do so will it throw a check engine light? I’m hearing 2 different stories that no it won’t and yes it will that I will need an aftermarket tuner to bypass the code. Any info will help thanks
