Well mdanehart I wish you the best. Any divorce is painful, but sometimes the rewards far outweigh the initial pain. I really loved my last one (second marriage after solo for a long time, together 14 years), but after I filed for divorce I knew I would be better off in the grand scheme of things.

I now have an amazing girlfriend who happens to be 12 years younger, incredibly beautiful inside and out, and knocks down some serious coin. She is one of several people in my life who encouraged me to get back on a Harley after a 9 year hiatus raising kids and step-kids.

Besides her, my FLHXS was/is some amazing divorce therapy.

Ride safe!

Special is really a better value, it’ll probably hold its value better too since it has the extra features. ABS is a must imo.

Default get the standard

I'd get the standard, but for sure with ABS. use the money for upgrades after purchase. I personally don't care for blacked-out look.

Looking at same bike, go Special. Don’t be fooled into paying MSRP. I just started shopping and with a few emails I’ve got a price $2K under. I’m betting I can still do a good bit better.

Again it depends if you like black or not. I bought a 17 Standard because IMO the special didn’t warrant the extra money for just nav, abs and extended bags. For Nav I use my phone. You can read on here about the multiple complaints about Harley’s Nav. Abs is up for debate if needed or not. Tons of places sell extended bags for cheap.

You can get a standard with Nav and Abs but I guarantee you’ll have to order one. I’ve been to dealer after dealer and they never have a standard with those options on the floor.

Now for 18 the specials look completely different then a standard. IMO Harley is about 5yrs late to the all blacked out look so me personally I’m over it and not worth the extra money

For the extra $5k you could score plenty of performance parts and look good parts and make the bike how you want it

But again that’s only if you’re not into all black

Sweet bikes either way you go so good luck with the purchase

I got the standard because I liked It more. Although the extended bags would’ve been kind of nice and maybe the larger touchscreen, I like the chrome much more than the black. I did get the ABS because they were on the standard bike I wanted that was on the floor. IMO, the other differences are meh.

I really really like the road king special but if I was really going to buy one id go with the standard just because I love shiny stuff...either way you're a winner!

If you buy the special, you can then feel.....well special.

Get what you want, that way you dont regret not having what you want later.
