Is it possible to have an intelligent discussion about the M8?

The squeaky wheel gets the grease. Some riders of problematic bikes have been very vocal...
My M8 seems to be very reliable so far and I'm really enjoying it. I don't discount that some people are having issues and I really do feel bad for them. Nothing is worse than buying a new car, bike, boat or other mechanical luxury item of choice and having issues. My nearest dealer has seen one failure out of thousands sold so unless they are trying to cover something up I think odds are good that most M8 riders will have a good reliable bike.

Mines been reliable as well. Funny thing, for any bike model/brand, there are probably 3-4 more times the people who own that bike AND ARE NOT forum regulars/members than those that are, so any stats or number gleaned from these informal polls on forums are useless. And there are always the "haters" in every crowd. My favorite is people who make comments about M8's and they have never ridden one. But they have a friend, who's cousin told them about their dad's bike, whatever......I am a Happy M8 owner.

Heck, Steve Cole is one of the people he personally thanked, and Steve is one who has two problematic bikes and has been vocal about it.
But there are others who seem to have as their sole joy in life, dropping deuces on everyone else's happiness. Man is it sad.

That's a great observation (and I'm a newbie here and non-M8) but I think what you describe is the nature of the [internet] beast. Often the first few responses, in any forum, address the issue seriously and then the "discussion" devolves into ...well into exactly what you described.. I don't think other forums are much different, generally speaking. My expectations have lowered somewhat for any extended on topic serious discussing...OTOH I have received invaluable information and how-to on most forums I frequent. Doesn't take long too figure out who knows what they are talking about and doesn't. I'm reminded of one hard core jeep offroad forum where fools were NOT suffered...it was brutal but people were kept in line and the children quickly learned half-formed or ill-informed opinions and BS were not welcome...but as I said- they were BRUTAL...it scared the **** out of me- but I respected it , admired it, and pretty much kept my mouth shut unless I was speaking from knowledge and experience. Sometimes ya gotta take the gloves off.

I tend to lurk for this very reason. I have had my 18 cvo for theee months now and am enjoying every minute. Because of this forum i do check my levels compared to the 07 I had which I never checked any fluids on. Sure can be a Debbie downer here. I now go to the last page of any thread about the m8s just to cut thru the bs.

I don't think that's what the OP is talking about. He's talking about people who don't even own an M8 at all, coming in and dropping their pants and threadcrapping all over any valid discussion that's happening.

I remember the first day we brought it home and I wanted to look into an exhaust for it I got on here and it was nothing but post after post of voiding the warranty, EPA bullcrap, and my friend has a neighbor who's cousin knows a girl whos boyfriends dad used to work at a dealership..... I try not to comment unless I can add something to the conversation more than just repeating what others have said

Those debby downers got me, traded my 2016 SGS in on a 2017 RGS and was so excited for this new bike for its better ride and stronger smoother motor, then came on here and now i am paranoid to do any long distant rides and will be checking my oil everyday, and in 30 years of riding never had to do that, but as time passes there seems to be less of the depressing post of doom and gloom and as i hear more positive things on the M8 slowly feeling better about my purchase
