Default Some issues with my '017....

The FOB. Last year I noticed that the bike would not always light up on the dash. It was traced down to the FOB was too close to another signal of some kind. The Cell phone was the big issue, but I also heard it can be caused by some other source of a radio frequency, like a taxi cab radio, or a wireless camera at the Gas Pumps. I even had it happen to me in Death Valley parked next to an Indian something or other..... every time it happened I had to move the the Cell phone or push the bike away from it.... that is what I had to do in Death Valley. I have been told that the batteries in them will last for years, but I found out that the one I had in the FOB from last year when I replaced it when I thought it was the battery was not good enough.... so I got a year out of a battery. All good so far.

The Clutch lever. It has a kill switch that will not allow the bike to start in gear without the clutch pulled all the way in. Last year it started acting up and sometimes the bike would start in gear, sometimes it would not. The fix was to make sure the bike was in neutral when I went to start it. The local dealer is going to warranty it and replace the faulty one with a new one at my next time in the shop, which should be in a week or so.

The Wheel bearings. Last summer I had the rear wheel bearings grenade at about 15,000 miles. I have a HOG membership with full towing from anywhere to the closest dealer, so it went in on the hook and it was repaired under warranty. It took out the ABS sensor and a few other things, but all of it was replaced, on the same day and i was back on the road... A great big thanks to Lewiston Idaho HD for that. The service manager at the shop said that the bearings that are stock on the bike, had a switch up to a new set which has better seals. He also said that they should be checked every tire change and replaced as necessary. He also said that I should seriously consider swapping out the front bearings when I do my front tire. I was in the Local Shop today and found out that it will cost about $150 for the bearings and labor as the wheel will be off anyway for the tire change in need.

Tires. I ran the stock tires for last year. I got about 3,000 miles on the rear one before I had a flat in Bakersfield. that tire was replaced with the same one as stock, and I got about another 15,000 miles before it was done. The front tire has just over 18,000 miles on now, and i might get another 1,000 miles before it is toast, so I am replacing it. I now have Metzler 888's front and back, with the back ones just a few miles. I got the Metzler because I had 88's on my '09 eGlide two summers ago and got 20,000 miles out of them, and even when they where almost worn out, they still handled like new in the rain.

I also run HD synthetic in all three holes. I was going to sell the bike as I have to work all year, and was going to just ride the Pan, but decided to keep it in case I want to do a four day, high millage run somewhere and I would not temp fate on it with the Pan. I will be taking the Pan to Sturgis, if it works out that I can take the two weeks off I want.

Last year at the top of Lolo Pass, South West of Missoula Montana..... for those that have not, this is a bucket list ride

I'm a Metzeler fan. Like the 888 a lot. Will be my goto when I need tires. Way better than Dunlops.

He does like Metzlers. But the ‘09 came with them, and they did me well in ‘16. When I told him I got 888’s for the M8 he seemed pleased. I am pretty sure Metzler added another 8 to the 88’s so they could add $80 to their price.....

They wear longer than the ME880s did.

Every time I need new tires, Chuck tries to sell me Metzlers. I've had really good luck with Michelin Commander II's.

Awesome pic

Having friends and family in Montana and Idaho, I've made that ride many times. Bucket list ride indeed!

Default LOLO Pass

Lolo is an epic ride, one of my favorites! was right up there with Glacier NP, PCH1 Big Sur, Olympics & Orcas Island in the San Juans..gotta' say though..Lewiston is a FURNACE! 107 when we rolled into the HD dealership..almost wiped out on tar snakes that day..and seeing Moose Crossing signs when you're doing 90 tends to make you throttle back some! I just don't get why they let the Moose cross in this spot right in the middle of a long straightaway..they should make them cross somewhere else imo
