It would help if the engine size, and if stock or with mods, was noted. Just so we can track the problem.

The issue of sumping has been closely tracked by HD. ALL 2017 & 2018 M8 engines of all displacement and all bike models have been identified as susceptible to engine sumping. A forum is a terrible place to “track” due to such a self-selective and small sample. The best source to determine if a bike is at risk is the actual language in HD’s SB1450.

Thanks for the insight. My question was directed to the "mine did" poster triumph900 above who didn't provide info on his bike and build. That's all I asked. I'm aware of all the rest of the topic.

Got it. Makes sense you might want to know the exact model softail. I was just trying to clarify that ALL 2017/2018 M8 bikes are included in the Service Bulletin

Have you reused you stage 4 heads? Mine has had a problem (running not sumping) and pulled heads off found exhause seats and compression releafs leaking

And thanks to your posts we have learned much. Speculation: Any component changes for 2019 months away will be revealing. By then some early 2017's not under ESP will go underwater as far as warranty and HD might offer running changes. The CVO Forum is a sad place now when it comes to this issue. Hope it gets resolved.

My latest Stage IV heads were brand new and inspected for proper seating of the valve seats before installation. New 64mm TB, new injectors, new SE515 cam, fully inspected and blueprinted cylinders, rings and pistons. Piston jets were confirmed as set to the proper torque and not leaking when the top end was off. Latest oil pump with .....180 casting # was installed. Installation supervised between dealer tech and HD Tech support to ensure installation followed latest steps. Factory 117 Stage IV ECU Map. Perfectly stock engine (#3) running factory headpipe and SE Street Cannons had about 2300 miles with no issues.

No clue what could have caused the sumping at this point but it really has to be related to the bottom end since everything on the top end was new and confirmed as meeting specifications.

Man that's news to me, I've never known him to have anything newer than a 2002. That said, I don't think he's out shopping M8s today
