Default Slip ons only, dealer says need tuner?

Just curious. Parts guy the other day never mentioned it. Went in today to order a bunch of goodies for my 18 RKS, different parts guy said even for just slip ons you would need/want a tuner to make HD happy as far as warranty goes. And at that point you're only an airbox away from stage 1. Seemed like a sales pitch to me, I can't believe just changing slip on mufflers with OEM air cleaner/head pipe/cat etc would change air flow and A/F ratios enough to confuse the oem computer.. Thoughts? I just wanted some more noise so I could hear the shift points on the highway, but I have no desire to mess with warranty or throw a bunch of cash at "performance." I would have kept my speed triple if I wanted that.

Put on the slip ons, ride it, and see how it runs. Based upon my butt o meter I lost some torque when I installed my Street=Canons. So, I went with K&N aircleaner, and SE Street Tuner and now it’s hsppy.

I mean, if its legit so be it. I'll do the whole thing once the bike is broke in I guess. Just seems crazy. Really didn't want to do all that, just wanted some slip ons to hear the bike a bit better heh.

Depends... pretty much boils down to how much error you have in the VE tables after you install the slip-ons. No two machine are exactly alike. Even from the factory the VE tables will have different magnitude of error from one unit to the next. Only one way to be certain...

My bike runs just fine with V&H 4" Eliminators and no tune, sounds allot better too, It would kill me to by some emissions legal tuner when I know once the warranty is up, it's getting decatted, a woods 222 cam and a powervision. If you think the furthest you will ever go is a stage one, then it may be worth the SE tuner for you. If you are just doing pipes and the bike feels good to you, leave it alone.

No tuner you'll notice a slightly erratic idle occasionally and get used to decel pop.

Install the pipes & have dealer flash the bike...$25 later and you're good to go.
